The innovative Postgraduate Program in Conservation and Restoration of Historical Structures and Monuments aims to protect and highlight architectural heritage. Its purpose is the specialized training of scientists in the identification, historical-typological analysis, evaluation and restoration intervention of historical ensembles from antiquity to modern times. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the program cultivates respect for the monument as a complex entity of historical memory and sustainable development.
The program is differentiated for its emphasis on Structural Analysis. Students learn to diagnose structural problems and propose appropriate conservation and reinforcement measures, based on local conditions and seismic activity. Theory is directly linked to practice through two three-day educational visits to monuments in Greece and Cyprus, where documentation, materials and pathology issues are examined on site.
The postgraduate program is taught by renowned architects and civil engineers with many years of restoration experience. Students acquire specialized knowledge of international legislation, traditional structural systems and modern intervention principles (compatibility, reversibility).
Upon completion of their studies, graduates possess the necessary know-how and scientific methodology to staff competent bodies, to respond effectively as researchers to market needs, or to continue their course towards obtaining a PhD.
Upon completion of the program, postgraduate students are expected to be able to:
