The purpose of the program is to meet the urgent market need for modern professionals, legal or managerial executives, offering a thorough understanding of the integration of law and the maritime business.

The postgraduate program is a unique partnership between the Department of Shipping and Commerce and the Department of Law of Frederick University. It is the only one of its kind in Cyprus and one of the few worldwide that combines specialized knowledge of Maritime Law and Maritime Management. The aim is to equip students with the necessary skills to successfully manage legal and business challenges, negotiate and operate effectively in different international jurisdictions.

The program covers a wide and highly relevant range of core courses, such as the law of carriage of goods, marine insurance, ship management and maritime economics. At the same time, it offers students the opportunity to specialize in one of three elective directions: Commercial Management, Marine Sustainability Management (Green Shipping) and Financial Management. Through this holistic training, the program aims to develop competitive executives ready to respond to top positions in the public sector, shipping companies, the banking industry, as well as in the legal or research sector.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are able to:

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and critical understanding of maritime law, maritime administration and international trade.
  • Analyze and manage complex legal, operational and financial issues arising in the shipping industry and maritime transport.
  • Provide specialized legal and business advice, negotiate effectively and contribute to the resolution of disputes in an international environment.
  • Apply critical thinking, independent research and modern administrative practices to address challenges in the maritime and commercial sector.
  • Demonstrate developed communication, professional and leadership skills to exercise high-level administrative and consulting functions.
  • Utilize interdisciplinary knowledge from the fields of law, administration and international trade to make informed decisions.
  • Apply advanced research methods and have the necessary resources to continue studies and research at the doctoral level.

The program is aimed at graduates, lawyers and executives seeking specialization in the shipping sector and international professional development. Candidates come from Business Administration, Law or Social Sciences, while applications from other scientific disciplines are considered on a case-by-case basis.
