The increasing mobility of populations and the formation of multicultural societies make intercultural education and the management of linguistic and cultural diversity particularly important for the modern educational and social environment. The Interuniversity Postgraduate Program “Intercultural Studies and Greek as a 2nd/Foreign Language” aims to provide specialized scientific knowledge and develop skills that allow students to respond effectively to the challenges of multiculturalism and language education.

The program offers a strong theoretical and research background in the theories of intercultural education, social inclusion and the management of cultural diversity. At the same time, it focuses on the teaching of Greek as a second or foreign language, providing modern knowledge, methods and practices that respond to the needs of students and learners with different linguistic, cultural and learning characteristics.

Through the study of modern pedagogical and language teaching approaches, students develop skills in planning, implementing and evaluating educational interventions in multicultural environments. At the same time, they cultivate attitudes of respect, equality and social justice, promoting the inclusion and equal participation of all individuals in the educational process.

Upon completion of their studies, graduates acquire the necessary scientific and professional skills to work in educational organizations, structures for hosting and supporting immigrants and refugees, international organizations, adult education and social inclusion institutions, while at the same time acquiring a strong foundation for continuing studies and research activity at the doctoral level.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are expected to be able to:

  • Understand and analyze the basic theories of intercultural education with the aim of promoting respect, dialogue and recognition of cultural identity.
  • Contribute to constructive coexistence within multicultural environments, utilizing diversity as a factor of social and educational pluralism.
  • Recognize and address phenomena of stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination in educational and social practice.
  • Possess the basic principles of teaching Greek as a second or foreign language and utilize appropriate language teaching approaches.
  • Design and implement effective teaching practices for students with a migrant background, refugees and members of the Greek diaspora.
  • Adopt practices that promote equal access to education and the inclusion of all learners.
  • Apply modern pedagogical and language teaching methods that respond to the different needs, interests and cultural characteristics of students.
  • Utilize research data and scientific evidence to improve educational practice in multicultural environments.

The program is aimed at teachers at all levels of public and private education, professionals active in the fields of education, social policy, social inclusion and intercultural mediation, as well as executives of organizations that work with multicultural populations.

It is an ideal choice for those who wish to acquire specialized knowledge in intercultural education and in the teaching of Greek as a second or foreign language, developing skills that respond to the needs of modern multicultural societies.
